Getting to the Bottom of Common Makeup Minerals

by guest

Makeup minerals can be confusing. The past year’s media blitz with mineral makeup has everyone looking for natural mineral remedies. Being natural makeup minerals does not mean that they will work very good. The most common mineral makeup might be completely ineffective. They could really cause some serious skin problems.

Of course you would want the best out the the minerals. However, this type of makeup isn’t good for everybody and you may not want to switch over entirely. Maybe they just want earth minerals. Or are the only looking for the anti-aging benefits? Could be that they just want to stay away from potential problems minerals can cause.

You should understand results you will get from the minerals in your makeup. See below for a short list of makeup minerals. You will look at your makeup’s ingredients and understand them.

Zinc and zinc oxide
These are common in pure mineral makeup products. These minerals are natural sunscreens. Use should use these minerals if you would like to smooth out your features and hide wrinkles. When you have these minerals in their purest form, they will not aggravate your skin.

Titanium dioxide
This mineral is also very common in natural makeups. It smoothes irregularities in complexion If it is in pure mineral makeup, then it also can alleviate acne and rosacea. But, they can also mix it with artificial ingredients which can result in the makeup being less hypoallergenic.

Mica
The anti-aging element in mineral makeup is Mica. Look for this mineral when buying your pure mineral makeup. It will draw attention away from any irregularity. The mica contained in pure mineral makeup is ground really fine so you won’t appear to be wearing glitter. You can usually find mica in most non-mineral makeups.

Bismuth
There has been controversy when using Bismuth in mineral makeups. This mineral is also unrefined. But, the earth mineral must be completely processed to be used in makeup. It is very hard to just grind this mineral into a powder. Some people claim that it should not count as a pure earth mineral. Many people like it because of the fresh “glow” you get. Itching is a side effect that can result if you have sensitive skin or tend to sweat.

Talc
One of the most often used minerals is talc. It has played a very large role in makeup since makeup was first used. However, many people are allergic to talc. This mineral is mainly used as a filler. You have likely been using talc if you use one of the more common makeups. Pure mineral makeup products usually leave out talc because it is a common allergen.
